We began this workshop so that neighboring tribal language advocates could learn to create media about their own cultures and in their own languages. So far, Tachi and Mono teams in Fresno County have been learning to use the Marantz CD recorder and digital camcorders. They then learn how to put these recording on iPods to create portable media for learning and sharing. We have had some wonderful days in the field recording traditional songs in Orosi and making soaproot brushes in Northfork. We are involving whole families. Our youngest “technician” is 10.
This project is funded by the Alliance for California Traditional Arts and ZeroDivide.
